October 1st, 2010. Wow! I cannot believe it is autumn already. The year has flown by as quickly as the leaves turn. I am working on a new album at broken Spiral Studios. It is the first time I have used studio musicians. The process is much different than a live band recording. First I had to lay down the scratch rhythm guitar, which was a daunting feat, and then the scratch vocals. I can’t blame anyone but myself if there are mistakes.Next came the drums. Andrew Rollins of ‘Kings Without” brought in the timbales for a couple of tunes. His interpretation was skilful, and I appreciated his sense of space and time. I am fortunate to have a talent like this. Next will be Dave Baird on bass. I can’t wait! Some of my tunes really warranted a stand up bass player and Dave is one of the best. There will be 12 songs on this album some older tunes some new. One of them, “This Island calls Me Home” was written for the Islands Song writing competition. I play it on our beautiful waterfront when I go busking. It pulls in a few toonies and loonies. I am really proud of this new song. So the busker is busy and that is a good thing. The Beat Of The Street Society (BOSS) is busy fundraising for next year’s Little Woodstock Street Festival. We have one grant application done, and another on the way. We are holding an All Star Jam session at our local Legion to keep up our fellowship with the busking community and other musicians. This Sunday it will be at No 10 Legion on Harewood Road. We are actively seeking cool acts for next year in September. www.thebeatofthestreet.org
